New Skills in Demand visa - subclass 482

The Department of Home Affairs has replaced the Temporary Skills Shortage visa and introduced a Skills in Demand visa for Australia (subclass 482.

The Skills in Demand visa enables employers to address labour shortages by sponsoring skilled overseas workers.

The Skills in Demand visa is a temporary visa which allows the holder to live and work in Australia for up to 4 years (5 if you hold a Hong Kong passport) with a potential pathway to apply for permanent residence.

Before you can apply for a Skills in Demand visa, the employer must submit an application to become a standard business sponsor and a nomination describing the position to be filled including job tasks and salary.

The Skills in Demand visa has 3 streams:

  1. Core Skills Stream
  2. Specialist Skills Stream
  3. Labour Agtreement Stream

All Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • be nominated for a skilled position by an approved sponsor
  • have relevant skills and work expeience to fill the nominated position
  • meet relevant English language requirements
  • have a minimum of 1 years relevant work experience in the nominated position
