The Global Talent visa (subclass 858 has been replaced by the introduction of the National Innovation Visa (NIV).
The NIV is a permanent visa created for exceptionally talented candidates globally who will help create jobs and drive productivity growth in key sectors of the Australian economy. The NIV therefore seeks established and emerging leaders with high-calibre talent and skills who can make significant contributions that will benefit Australia’s future prosperity such as global researchers, entrepreneurs, innovative investors, athletes and creatives.
Candidates can be of any age but, must have an internationally recognised record of exceptional and outstanding achievement in a profession, a sport, the arts or academia and research. This means that you have superior abilities and achievements to others in your area, are acclaimed as exceptional in any country where your area is practised and have a record of sustained achievement unlikely to diminish in the near future.
Candidates will also need to demonstrate that they will be an asset to the Australian community and the Australian nation as a whole by contributing for example to economic, social, cultural activities which help raise Australia's academic, artistic or sports standing internationally.
Applications will be by invitation only via the Expression of Interest process and you must be nominated by an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, eligible New Zealand citizen or an Australian organisation who has a national reputation in the same area as you.
