Northern Territory (NT)

GSM nomination program 2025/2026

State and territory nomination programs comprise of 2 visa subclasses which specifically are for applicants whose nominted occupation is on the Short Term Skilled Occupations List.

These visa subclasses have also become increasingly popular for applicants hoping to be invited under the Skilled Independent pathway (subclass 189) due to the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) invitation rounds being held less frequently and with many occupations requiring a higher points score.

Skilled Nominated (subclass 190). This is a permanent visa and applicants nominated will immediately receive an invitation from the DHA to apply for a visa. Applicants also benefit from being awarded an additional 5 points for being nominated.

Skilled  Regional Work visa for Australia (subclass 491). This is a provisional visa which requires you to live and work in regional Australia (anywhere except Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane) with a pathway to apply for permanent residence after 3 years (subclass 191 - Skilled Regional visa). This visa also comes with the benefit of being awarded an additional 15 points for being nominated and immediately being invited by the DHA to apply for a visa once the nomination is approved.

The states and territories generally rank Expressions of interest according to a candidates age, education, English proficiency, total years of skilled work experience and points score. Receiving an invitation to apply for nomination is, however, highly competitive, and there is no guarantee of being invited due to the high demand regardless of whether your nominated occupation features on their skills list and you have met all nomination criteria.

Concept Australia monitors the state/territory programs and invitation criteria and evaluates which occupations are being prioritised so that we can advise you whether your prospects of being invited are realistic.

To find out whether you have the potential to be nominated, please contact Concept Australia on 0208 315 6701 or send an email to info@conceptaustralia.co.uk stating:

  • your age
  • your nominated occupation
  • your qualifications
  • the number of years work experience in your nominated occupation
  • where you are planning to live in Australia

Northern Territory

The Northern Territory covers about one sixth of the Australian continent with an area of 1.35 million km2 which is equal to the combined areas of France, Spain and Italy. About four- fifths of the Territory (1.09 million km2) lies within the tropics and the 6200 km coastline is generally flat and backed by swamps, mangroves and mudflats, rising to a plateau no higher than 450 m. In central Australia, the Territory is crossed by the east-west ridges of the Macdonnell Ranges, which reach heights of more than 600 m. The well-known monolith, Uluru (Ayers Rock), 348 m high, is near the south-west corner of the Territory. The northern quarter, known colloquially as the “Top End”, is a distinct region of Savannah woodlands and pockets of rain-forest. In the north-east, the Arnhem Land plateau rises abruptly from the plain and continues to the coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria. Much of the southern three-quarters of the Territory consists of desert or semi-arid plain.

Darwin

Darwin, the capital is situated in the north-western corner of the Territory and is a modern, cosmopolitan and tropical city with a vibrant multicultural population and long-standing cultural and trading links in the Asia Pacific region. With a population of over 110 234 people Darwin is built on a low-lying peninsula located on a working harbour that’s twice the size of Sydney Harbour. The suburbs are lined with tropical palms with a mixture of low set southern Australian style houses and traditional elevated Darwin housing which are built to benefit from the tropical breezes, with lush gardens of palms, bougainvillea, frangipani, orchids and other species. Wide streets, shady parks, a pedestrian mall, superb ethnic restaurants and contemporary and outback style pubs and clubs have all contributed to an upsurge in the popularity of Darwin city living. Mitchell Street is the main entertainment street, with the Darwin Waterfront Precinct offering a more family style entertaining area with cafes, retail stores and wave pool. Darwin has a more stress free environment than in other cities. There’s less traffic, less population and rarely any queues: a city with a holiday feel all year round.
